Temporary traffic lights put in place on Bognor Regis road during emergency gas repairs

Temporary traffic lights are set to remain in place on a Bognor Regis road until the end of the month as emergency gas leak repairs are carried out.

SGN is undertaking ‘urgent work’ on the B2259 Chichester Road, near the junction with Merrion Avenue, to repair a gas leak and ‘help maintain a safe and reliable gas supply’.

The temporary traffic lights are expected to remain in place until Saturday, 31 October 2026, while the work is completed.

A spokesperson for SGN said: "We’re carrying out emergency repairs to our gas network in the Chichester Road area of Bognor Regis. To do this safely, traffic lights are in place along Chichester Road near its junction with Merrion Avenue. Pedestrian access has not been affected.

“We’ve successfully completed our repair and are now in the process of resurfacing the road where we have been working. We will need to keep the lights in place while we do this, to keep people safe and to give the new surface time to set. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, we expect to remove these lights on Wednesday, October 28..

“We’d like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while we carry out this important work.”

Motorists travelling through the area are advised to allow extra time for their journeys while the temporary traffic lights remain in place.
