Road near Chichester closed after two potholes discovered

A road near Chichester has closed after two large potholes were discovered.

West Sussex Highways said a section of the B2201 Chichester Road near Donnington has been closed on Monday, October 26, after two large potholes, each measuring approximately 140mm deep, were discovered.

A spokesperson for Selsey Town Council added: “Given their size and close proximity to one another, the defects cannot be repaired safely under temporary traffic signals, and a road closure is therefore required for safety reasons.”

The closure is expected to remain in place for approximately 48 hours while repair work is carried out. Work is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, October 27, according to West Sussex Highways.

The closure also affects traffic using the official diversion route for the ongoing Stockbridge Road closure.

Drivers who would normally use the B2201 as part of the diversion via the B2145 will instead be directed along Green Lane until repairs are complete.

Temporary traffic lights have been installed at the junction of Green Lane and the B2201.

West Sussex Highways said it would continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates as more information becomes available.

Motorists are advised to follow the signed diversion and allow extra time for their journeys while the emergency works are under way.
