Sussex Police launched a murder investigation in Chichester following a fatal assault on Thursday (June 20) evening.

A large police presence was seen in West Street, Chichester, following the incident which occurred at about 11pm. Sussex Police confirmed one man has died, and another has been charged with murder.

A 30-year-old man, from Birmingham, has now been charged with murder, Sussex Police have confirmed. He will appear before Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Monday (June 24).

A 42-year-old man from County Durham was arrested on suspicion of affray and has been released on conditional bail, police added. A third man suspected of affray has been identified and efforts are ongoing to bring him into custody.

A murder investigation has been launched in Chichester after police cordoned off part of the city centre last night (June 20). Police have confirmed a murder investigation has been launched following an incident at The Dolphin and Anchor pub in West Street.

UPDATE FROM SUSSEX POLICE

“A murder investigation has been launched following an incident at The Dolphin and Anchor pub in West Street, Chichester, last night. Despite the best efforts of police and paramedics, a 57-year-old man from South Yorkshire was sadly pronounced deceased. One man has been arrested on suspicion of murder; a second man has been arrested on suspicion of affray.

“The public can expect to see a police presence in the area as our enquiries continue, and anyone with information is urged to contact us”
