Friday evening racing returns to Goodwood tonight with a competitive six-race card on offer ahead of Gok Wan’s Three Friday Nights DJ set.

The evening meeting gets under way with a maiden fillies’ stakes in class four at 5.30pm with some potential stars of the future on show, before rounding off at 8.20 with an amateur jockeys’ handicap, also in class four.

Fourteen runners will take on the opening race of Goodwood’s Friday card (5.30) in class four of the maiden fillies’ stakes for two-year-old’s. On form, Lightning Force made an encouraging debut when runner-up at Kempton last month for trainer Ollie Sangster. Of her rivals, newcomer Mollie Foster is one to keep an eye on, bought for €62,000 as a yearling and a sister to seven winner Dance Acclaim, so makes plenty of appeal on paper.

Race two of the evening (6.05) sees a good field of 13 head to the stalls for the 1m1f handicap in class five for three-year-old’s and preference is for Myna, trained by marcus Tregoning, who was only narrowly beaten on handicap debut at Newbury just under a month ago and can go one better here, defying a 4lb rise in the weights which is a fair assessment of his previous run.

The third race on the card (6.40) sees the Ralph Beckett-trained Clan Chieftain the one beat following a good second of eight in a Salisbury handicap last month to show the best form of the nine-runner field here. Sussex trainer Gary Moore could have a strong hand in race three with Miller Spirit, a course and distance winner just a week ago at Goodwood. But has in the past to have proven to be a very tough customer to keep a lid on.

Cypriot Diaspora will take all the beating in race four (7.15) - the fillies handicap over the six-furlong sprint distance. A good second at Nottingham just under three weeks ago, her form stacks up well against the field and of the others, Gogo Yubari cannot be discounted for trainer Dylan Cunha, who has five wins from 17 Flat runs - all of them coming this year.

Goodwood’s penultimate race of its Friday evening card arrives at 7.50 with the five furlong handicap in class four for for three-year-old’s and preference here goes to Enchanting for trainer Andrew Balding, who has top jockey Hollie Doyle on board for a runner that was fourth in the three-year-old dash at Epsom’s Derby meeting last time out and is back in much calmer waters here.

Finally, 11 runners will take their spot in the stalls for the one mile amateur jockeys handicap in class four at 8.20 to bring the card to a close. Dreamrocker is a big player off a good third in an 18-runner York Handicap on her last spin so should be well in the frame here, while Double Time is the selection for a place having finished a decent fourth of 11 in a Newmarket handicap last time out.
