The Eastbourne 10k returns on Sunday with its organisers keen to press home their priorities of giving runners a day to cherish while raising significant amounts of cash for good causes.

Sunday’s race is another sell-out, which means 500 competitors of all abilities are set to take on the flat and fast course. The race starts at 8.30am next to the bandstand and the route takes in much of Eastbourne’s glorious seafront.

Eastbourne Runs is the name of the organisation that oversees the race and it’s well-known locals Sue Fry and Liz Jumber in charge.

Sue said: “We started our events journey in 2018 when we set up the Eastbourne 10k. Prior to that we set up the junior parkrun for 4-14 year olds to get fit and active.

“Last year we took over the Eastbourne half marathon, as well as hosting the 10k, and our mission is to help raise money for local charities whilst putting on an event for everyone to enjoy.

"So far we’ve raised over £20,000 from our fundraising efforts. Charities that Eastbourne Runs have supported include Matthew 25 Mission, Eastbourne Sea Cadets, JDRF, Amaze, St Wilfrid’s Hospice and Aspens.

“We feel a great sense of satisfaction watching the runners crossing the line with smiles on their faces as they’ve achieved a personal best, or perhaps run for a charity or in memory of a loved one’

“On Sunday every runner will receive a bespoke medal as they cross the line. The weather is looking kind so maybe there will be some super speedy times on the flat and fast course.

"There’s £100 up for grabs for the quickest male and female breaking the course record. There are also age group prizes from youths, age 15 up to age 70+

We have pacers to help achieve time goals from 40 mins up to 75 minutes. The Willingdon 2nd Scout Group will be out on the course, handing out oranges and jelly babies to boost the runners energy. They will also have some uplifting music to keep the runners motivated.

The Sea Cadets once again are on the water station at the halfway mark to keep the runners hydrated."
