'Where we are is exactly what we planned' - Crawley Town boss reviews pre-season and looks ahead to York City match

Crawley’s Head Coach discussed his side’s pre-season and the chaotic nature of the scheduling as he looked ahead to the Reds match against York City in the Carabao Cup on Monday evening following their 1-0 friendly defeat to Reading.

Reds’ pre-season concluded on Friday night at the Broadfield Stadium and the Reds boss said : Where we are is exactly what we planned. The thing about [this game] is that when we got told that we had this game, it wasn’t even the team that we got told, we first go told that we was playing against a different team and then ten days, twelve days later we got told it we’re doing a draw, so it was just all over the place.

“It was just exactly what it was from the sanctioning body, it just has to be better, that’s not be pointing the finger, it has to be better for all teams, for all players, for all staff that’s working at clubs.”

He added: “Where we are is exactly what we had, those are the minutes we had, and now Monday we use it again as people getting even more minutes but it’s a game that we have to go and win.”

It is a quick turnaround for the Reds as they play on Monday night against York City in the preliminary round of the Carabao Cup.

The former Fenerbahce forward said: “That’s the lovely thing of football, it’s another place for the guys to go and experience to go and get a win, and there’s nothing better than playing official games, games where there are points on the line. I know there’s no points in this game [York City] but you lose, you're out, you win, you're through.

“These are the games that you want to play in, and I’m not moaning about the game at all, I’m so happy and ready and prepared for the game. It just has to be better organised in terms of where we can try and get our players to go to and get to in terms of for that game.”

The Reds look forward to a visit to the York Community Stadium for a 19:30 kick-off to take on the Minstermen who recently employed former Crawley manager Scott Lindsey as their new Head Coach.
