Danilo Orsi says Crawley Town players and staff have put ‘some real work in’ and had some ‘honest meetings’ during their two-week break.

The Reds have had an enforced two week break with both the Barnet and Walsall games being postponed because of International call-ups.

They are back in action tonight (Tuesday) when they face Bromley in the Jersey Mikes Trophy before they host Chesterfield at the Broadfield Stadium in league action on Tuesday.

Before the two-week break, there was unrest of the run of results which saw Colin Kazim-Richards’ side drop to the bottom of the table which some asking for changes in the management team.

Orsi says he understands the frustration but wants the supporters to really get behind everyone on Saturday because he knows they can make a difference.

"I grew up being a football fan and I've probably been in their shoes a few times supporting my club. But you've just got to support, that's the club you choose to support and you've got to get behind them. And I want them out there on Saturday cause I know what type of atmosphere and how good they are when they can get behind you.

He added: “I know we are early in the season and we are really doing everything we can to put it right as, as a group of players and a group of coaching staff as well.

“I want to thank them for their support and they've obviously been great with me over the last few years that I've been at the club and I just want them to get behind us and get behind the boys and, and be that extra man for us because, um, it's going to be a tough game.

“It's Chesterfield. They're doing well this season. They're a big club at this level and we're going to need to go out there and put in a performance.

“And hopefully us combined with the fans can help us get a positive result.”

And the 30-year-old gave an insight to what they have been doing during this break.

"I know there's been a lot of talk about players getting time off and going on holiday, and that's the case with a lot of my mates who play at other clubs, but we, didn't get any time off. We got one weekend off.

“I have seen people have luxury holidays and whatnot, but that definitely wasn't the case. It's been a period where we've got some real work in and had a few honest meetings and tried to iron out a few issues that the coaching staff and players have identified that will give us the best possible opportunity moving forward.”

The former Grimsby Town and Burton striker, who scored 25 goals in Reds’ promotion-winning season, has started the last three league games. The striker is pleased with his work, but knows it doesn’t count if they are not winning.

He said: “I came back off the injury last year and have had to be a bit patient to begin with but as far as I'm concerned, I've scored and got an assist in the first three games that I've started this season and obviously got the penalty at York as well.

“So for me personally, I'm happy to a degree, but again, I'm not happy when you're losing games of football. It almost doesn't really matter as such. You're losing 2-1, you've scored, but you come away with nothing.

“It’s bittersweet at the moment, but hopefully I can keep this up and hopefully these, goals and the assists end up turning into three points and the team can carry on moving forward and push up the table.”
