Crawley Town star confident Reds can ‘fly up the table’ after Bromley win

Crawley Town midfielder Stephen Duke-McKenna feels that last night’s 4-0 defeat of Bromley in the Jersey Mike’s Trophy should give the team the confidence to get out of trouble in the league.

Crawley Town take on Chesterfield at the Broadfield Stadium this Saturday, and Duke-McKenna thinks that the Reds can push on now.

After scoring two, possibly three, on his return, he said: “Like the captain says, we’ve obviously set a level, what is expected now. So, we know we can do it and we have to replicate it because the coaches and the staff, they give us everything. They put everything into giving us every bit of knowledge about the teams, tactics, everything to prepare us for the game.

“So, it’s down to us as players to go and produce that. And I think now from today, we’ve shown we can. So, we just have to do it again and repeat that.”

Crawley’s league form has been atrocious, only winning once so far in seven games. But Duke-McKenna feels that the results are not a fair reflection. He said: “The results is the games, I don’t think it reflects on us as a group and as a team at all. Because the work we do behind the scenes, the pre-season we had, I thought, was outstanding.

“It’s just a shame really. But hopefully now we can take that win and that bit of confidence and take it into the rest of the games for the rest of the season.”

Speaking about how much confidence that result will give the dressing room, Duke-McKenna said: “There’s so many players in that changing room, who can go and put one, two goals in. It’s just about having that confidence now to go and do it on a Saturday and for the rest of the season.

“I have no doubt in the team. You just don’t get to see what happens behind the scenes. So, the work we put in and the talent we got in the squad, it’s just about it all gelling together on a Saturday and making sure we do it on the day. So, if we do that, I have no doubt we can fly up the table.”
