'What we want' - Alexander Isak delivers his Brighton verdict after Liverpool victory
All the reaction from Brighton’s 2-0 Premier League defeat at Anfield
Striker Alexander Isak believes Liverpool were at their intense best to beat a "really good" Brighton team.
Isak netted the second goal for Liverpool just three minutes after after Brighton’s Pascal Gross turned into his own goal.
It's the first time third place Brighton have failed to score this season and these were the first goals conceded by the Seagulls in all competitions in over nine hours.
The win moves Liverpool up to fourth spot.
Isak, speaking to Sky Sports, said: "Today, especially the performance was really good against a really good team. The first half is what we want to be about: winning balls and the intensity."
Brighton may have fared better had Yasin Ayari not blazed over the first chance of the game after Diego Gomez’s pass released Gross and head coach Fabian Hurzeler felt they missed other chances.
Hurzeler: A missed opportunity
“Everyone in the stadium felt there was a missed opportunity for us because it's not only after the goal or the goals they made.,
“Also before they scored, we had one or two chances and today I think it was just a difference that they scored, we didn't score.
“They kept a clean sheet because they defended well with their centre-backs. I think they blocked a lot of shots, they really defended the box well.
“We didn't have that efficiency, we couldn't keep the clean sheet because we made easy mistakes.
“We lost some important personal duels but overall I saw a team with a lot of good things to take away.
“I saw a team that really had the belief to our approach, that stick to the match plan. That always kept going and that is very frustrating because we all have the feeling that this is a missed opportunity here today.”
