Brighton’s record signing has impressed head coach Fabian Hurzeler

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler praised Luka Vuskovic's "outstanding mindset" after his Premier League debut against Aston Villa.

Vuskovic joined from Tottenham last month for a record breaking £50m transfer fee and the Croatian played 90 minutes in the Conference League 0-0 draw at Tromso last Thursday, swiftly followed by a full 90 minutes on his Premier League debut against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Vuskovic helped Brighton to a clean sheet in the 4-0 victory and has looked assured throughout the start of his Brighton career.

"Yeah, I can't say I expected that [level of performance against Villa],” said Hurzeler.

"But I know that he's quite a mature guy and in certain moments you still see that he wants to play, play, play. "In certain moments I think he needs to find more serious solutions, but overall he's very young.

"But he adapted quickly to the match, in the Premier League he just has his physicality, he has his personality and his mindset is just outstanding.

"He's a winner and his mentality to improve every day, to listen every day, that's very positive and therefore we are quite happy with him."

Tough tests await Vuskovic

Brighton and Vuskovic will have more stern tests ahead. They face Tromso in the second leg of their play-off at the Amex Stadium this Thursday and then go to Xabi Alonso's Chelsea on Sunday.

Vuskovic, if he plays at Stamford Bridge, will be up against the likes of former Brighton striker Joao Pedro, plus England duo Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers. Perhaps even ex-Brighton man Danny Welbeck too.

Herzeler added: "It was a good first start [for Vuskovic], I think it's very important now to stay humble, don't put too much euphoria into him.

"Let him do his work, let him improve, accept also when he does some mistakes, this will be also part of it, but hopefully the Premier League also educates him."
