The festival takes place in the woodlands and countryside at Loxwood Meadow (Loxwood, near Billingshurst, RH14 0AL), on the fringes of the South Downs National Park on Saturday, August 29 – a day which will also feature Badly Drawn Boy, The Tubs, Hero Fisher, Elizabeth Alker, Studio Electrophonique, Joe Wilkes, Justin Robertson and Stuart Bailie.
Radhika will be offering Scottish dream pop: “It's about creating an atmosphere where you feel like you are floating. My aim with music is to make people feel, and that can be any sort of feeling. But my aim is to make people feel emotional. There is no right emotion and there is no wrong emotion but a lot of my stuff I write is beautifully melancholic, I would say. At the heart of it I'm inspired by bands that are slower.
“I have only been playing live for about a year and a half. I was just at school and college and then I realised that there was a lot of joy in creating songs. I left college last year and now I'm trying to make music more or less full time but I do have a part-time job as well. I work in a record store.
“It's hard (to make your way in the business) but I feel so lucky because we're getting gigs quite continuously and I've released an album as well. That came out at the end of May. It was a bit nerve-racking but it was so special to have these songs on the album that I wrote from the age of ten to 19. It was like a story of my life and that's really special to have that. It was like me seeing parts of me growing up and you can see my musical influences change and you can see my lyrics change. You can see the progress and seeing that is quite special to me now.
“And now it is out in the world. So much love and hard work went into it, and I feel so lucky to have worked with so many of my personal heroes, people who are in the Scottish alternative scene.
“I am really pleased with it. I think people admired that I wrote a lot of the songs when I was younger and I think people admired the album for its authenticity. It is quite raw. It is not overproduced. It was just a really sweet response that it had, and I have gained new fans because of it. It makes me want to gig more and play more. It is all very exciting.”
