A new parking system is being introduced at a Horsham supermarket – the second within six months.

Shoppers visiting Sainsbury’s in Worthing Road are being told that from tomorrow (June 13) they can park for free for up to two hours if they spend £10 in the supermarket.

Since last October, people have been able to park for free for two hours without any obligation of spending anything in Sainsbury’s.

Previous to that parking was free for up to half an hour, and free for two and a half hours if people spent £10 in the store.

However, there was much confusion when ticket machines were installed in 2022. People had to ask for a parking ticket to insert in the machines when they finished shopping – and many reported being ‘fined’ up to £85 despite following the rules.

Now it’s all change again. People can now park for free for 20 minutes or for two hours if they spend £10.

Shoppers are being told that they now need to go to a parking kiosk before leaving the car park and scan their till receipt to qualify.

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “Customers popping into our Horsham store for 20 minutes or less can park for free. If customers are staying longer, we have introduced a £10 minimum spend which will give our customers two hours’ parking which will help make sure everyone can find a parking space when they need one.

“There are signs throughout the car park which explain this.”
