FOOTNOTES: After a week of biting my nails down to the quick, I nervously made my way to the local surgery to find out the results of an ECG.
I find that sometimes having a vivid imagination, whilst it stands me in great stead in my acting and writing careers, can also be a curse when faced with something like this. I had already packed a suitcase in my mind for the hospital stay, forced myself not to warn my neighbours that I was going to be away for some time and to tell everyone I was about to depart this world.
You can probably guess the rest.
The ECG was completely clear, the rest of the physical I had was also fine and there was nothing wrong with me except for the wear and tear of age. Attempting to cover the great relief I felt, I repeated to the doctor giving me this news, Jimmy Durante’s great line in a similar situation, ‘I can’t possible die, I am booked through to the Spring’.
This was met with a resigned silence. We have known each other for over 20 years, but I feel he has always regretted taking an actor on the books.

Have a great week, enjoy what sunshine we are having this summer.
